American Literature and Writing

American Literature and Writing

This year-long course will provide a full credit for English Literature and Writing for middle school students. Throughout this course students will be expected to read 9 novels that are set in the 19th century. Students will also be expected to complete weekly literature and writing assignments. A major thread throughout this course is worldview analysis and understanding literature in its historical setting. Elements of writing will include parts of speech, genres & paragraph construction, , report writing, descriptive writing, expositive writing, summarizing, compare/contrast essay and a book review.

Besides offering a great introduction to these works and learning to use tools of literary analysis, this course ties into the student’s historical and worldview studies so that both are enhanced.
